Step Up for Smart Works 2025
For many women, getting a job is a lifeline. It is a chance to escape poverty, gain financial stability and restore confidence. In the shadow of the cost of living crisis, there is an intensified need for the Smart Works service.
Smart Works is a UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for their job interview. They give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and transform their lives. In the last year, 63% got a job within a month of their appointment.
Between the 1st and 31st of March, I will be walking 10,000 steps a day to raise vital funds for Smart Works. I would appreciate anything you are able to give to this fantastic charity.

Approaching my steps target today 🎯
Friday 28th Mar I think I will reach 310,000 steps today, a great relief, having seen such incredible support from my friends the promise needs to be kept. 310,000 steps is 10,000 steps a day every day in March. 10,000 steps a day honours the 10,000 women a year helped by Smart Works as of March 2025 👏👏👏 Share
Final weekend
Monday 24th Mar When we started, we reckoned we would easily do enough steps to “walk” the whole South west coast path. Wish it had been the real thing. Instead walked and ran around Bristol listening to chiffchaffs and woodpeckers, signs of Spring Share

Spring weekend steps 15/16 March
Sunday 16th Mar Shops - weeding - swimming (no steps for that) - walking all the time. No vacuuming thats good for steps. And wandering about watching the night sky - its incredible at the moment Share
Fareshare on a very fine day Steps 13,000
Thursday 13th Mar A perfect day in Bristol. I was on the Fareshare rounds with Denzil today and we rebelled a bit, having a coffee at Wogan before picking up the van (the warehouse was busy) Who did we bump into? Laura Fowler of all co-incidences. Hope the IWD was a success! Share

Running with friends
Wednesday 12th Mar Im lucky to have an opportunity to walk or run with friends at least 3 times a week, theres a call up by watsapp without fail but no pressure if its just not the right day. Some I met decades ago, others over the years. I value every one of them more than they can ever know. Those runs with heartfelt and hilarious chats have sustained me and I want to thank all of you. Again and again you proved to me that being active outside with mates is good, really really good for us. Share

10,000 muddy steps Sunday 9 March
Monday 10th Mar I went to visit family and walked a circular route round the Cotswold town of Charlbury. A lot of cows, surprisingly difficult to navigate the route without knee high slog through muddy streams. But Spring rewarded me and you get to share like it or not. Thanks for your donations Share

Thrive Renewables IWD celebrations
Thursday 6th Mar This will be harder when the weather changes! 15,211 steps to take me all over Bristol including a fantastic welcome from the team at Thrive where we talked about renewables, 30 years of sustainable investment and to introduce Smart Works Bristol plans. Thanks for your clothing donations and Monica thank you for your generous sponsorship today Share

Trains - 5 March 2025
Thursday 6th Mar Its pretty easy to get around Bristol on foot but one of the best secret assets we have is the Awvern Beach to Bristol Temple Meads GWR line. Makes for an easy commute to London! Share
