Step Up for Smart Works 2026

Smart Works is a UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for their job interview. They give women the confidence they need to unlock their potential, secure employment and transform their lives.

In the last year, 68% of clients who accessed Smart Works' support went on to secure employment.

At Smart Works Scotland Step Up for Smart Works will help support women across Scotland who are preparing for interviews and working to rebuild their confidence after periods of unemployment. Last year, Smart Works Scotland supported 1027 women into work.

Between the 1st and 10th of May, we will be Stepping Up for Smart Works. Every step helps fund confidence, clothing and coaching for women facing the greatest barriers to work. We would appreciate every pound you are able to give to support this brilliant charity.

Tuesday 5th May
Day 5 of my fundraising for Smart Works and I enjoyed lunch walk with these two gorgeous ladies (see picture). So much better than strolling alone.

Day 4

Monday 4th May
Smart Works helps unemployed women get the coaching, clothing, and confidence they need to secure employment and change the trajectory of their lives.

Please support them by joining my fundraiser, as I’ve pledged to walk at least 10,000 steps a day for 10 days.

Today, if I’m being honest, was especially difficult for me. I completed most of my steps walking up and down the Outpatients corridors at the Royal Hospital after waking up with severe ear pain. I went diving yesterday, and I had to cut my session short because I couldn’t equalise underwater and ended up with vertigo.
It was confirmed today that I have ETD and may have damaged my eardrum too. However , later in the afternoon, with the help of a pile of painkillers, I managed a short walk to top up my steps.

Here’s to persistence! Here’s to Smart Works!

Day 3

Sunday 3rd May

Day 3

Sunday 3rd May
Another day upside down - roughly 3h under and exactly 11634 steps up. Still trying to walk at least 10k for Smart Works so third day done and ticked!

2nd day

Saturday 2nd May

2nd day

Saturday 2nd May
What a day! Couldn’t do many steps as I spent most of today underwater practicing for my PADI Open Water license and a big day diving in Loch Long tomorrow. It was late in the afternoon when we arrived to Arrochar following our pool diving session so we only managed a quick walk before the sunset. Still little over £10k on a clock. Please support my fundraising for Smart Work!
