Step Up for Smart Works 2025

For many women, getting a job is a lifeline. It is a chance to escape poverty, gain financial stability and restore confidence. In the shadow of the cost of living crisis, there is an intensified need for the Smart Works service.

Smart Works is a UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for their job interview. They give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and transform their lives. In the last year, 63% got a job within a month of their appointment.

Between the 1st and 31st of March, I will be walking 10,000 steps a day to raise vital funds for Smart Works. I would appreciate anything you are able to give to this fantastic charity.

Many of you will appreciate that dedicating your career to regulations and spreadsheets (!) equates to a lot of time sat behind a desk, and can result in a very sedentary lifestyle.

This challenge was therefore important to me not only to raise money for a great cause, but to see if I could benefit personally from the discipline of moving more and getting outside for fresh air (spoiler alert - I definitely have!)

My pre-challenge average daily steps were in the region of 3-4,000k, so upping that such that I average 10k per day for a whole month has been a significant effort. I am actively walking outside for 3-4 miles most days in order to achieve this, as well as just generally moving more!
